FAQ
Printing
-
We offer letterpress printing, foil stamping, embossing and die cutting at our studio. We also have an extensive network of digital printers, binderies and packaging specialists that we work with directly to help complete any steps of your project that can’t be completed through our in-house processes.
-
Regular turnaround for letterpress orders is within 10-15 business days after we've received your print approval and initial deposit. Need it sooner? We offer expedited production for time-sensitive projects.
-
Absolutely! Reach out to make an appointment to come into the studio to chat about your project and look at samples in person.
-
Because no two projects are the same, we provide custom quotes tailored to each job. If you have a budget range or examples of what you're after, feel free to share them—this helps us recommend the best approach for your needs.
-
Yes! While our presses print one color at a time, each color on each side requires its own custom plate, ink mixing, setup, and separate run through the press.
-
Not with letterpress, as the inks we use are translucent and don’t show up well on dark stocks. For light text on dark stock, we recommend foil stamping instead which lays down an opaque layer of pigment foil on the dark stock, resulting in a nice high-contrast print.
-
Absolutely! Over half of the projects we take on are with clients far outside our area. We have a simple system to walk you through the process remotely, making sure that everything is produced perfectly to spec. When the project is complete, we will package it with utmost care and ship it to you via insured UPS/Fedex to arrive according to your deadline.
-
The papers we use are sourced from several premium paper mills but we have an extensive knowledge of specialty papers so that we can bring in just the right paper for your project. You are not limited to papers we stock in the studio!
We hand mix all of our letterpress inks using the Pantone system which offers almost 2400 swatches to chose from. This allows us to look through the Pantone deck together to identify your perfect ink shade and also offers a standard color reference if we are working with you or a designer remotely.
We also understand that too many choices is not always helpful so we will always make recommendations for a paper and ink combination that will best render your design.
Design
-
Yes! We operate mostly on a print-for-hire basis and are happy to print your design. You can send us your design files and we will discuss if any changes need to be made for your project to be print ready.
-
When you’re setting up the final artwork please:
Convert all of the type to outlines (Type > Create Outlines)
Make sure all lines are at least 0.3pt thick for letterpress and 0.5pt thick for foil stamping
Save it as a .PDF or .AI file
-
Yes! Send over any preliminary artwork, inspiration images and content and we will get your formal designs started from there. Having a clear idea will simplify and shorten the overall design and printing process.
-
Yes, we provide design services! Whether it’s for a piece of brand collateral or a personal celebration, we enjoy creating thoughtful designs with our specialty print processes in mind. Reach out about your project and we are happy to provide an estimate for our design services.
-
From the start we work closely with you to create a completely custom design for your project. We begin with a consultation, either in the studio or over phone/email if you are not local. Once we map out your project together, we will supply a preliminary quote and a timeline for the project.
Once the quote is approved and a deposit is paid, we begin the design process which includes two rounds of revisions. When the final design is ready, we finalize paper and ink choices and go to press!
Depending on the complexity of the project, amount of revisions and client responsiveness, the design phase typically takes around 2-3 weeks. Production time once we go to print is typically 10-15 business days.
